“If Hillary is nominated, will you promise to support her?”
There seem to be at least two of these every day. I’m tired of them. And I have no idea what their purpose is. There’s nothing positive about Hillary in them. There’s just threats: “do you want President Trump?” “Aren’t you a loyal Democat?” “Are you now, or have you ever been . . . ?”
Do you think you’ll get a different answer? Do you think you’ll get a different answer? Do you think you’ll get a different answer? Do you think you’ll get a different answer?
If nothing else, ANY diarist should look down the recent and rec lists. If you see similar content and similar style, reconsider, unless you have something unique to bring to the conversation: a new article, or a piece of news.
And specifically, the “will you promise” diaries are annoying because:
1. They are presumptuous. They are declaring the primaries over when they have hardly started. I’m not even voting until June 7th, and guess what: I’m voting Bernie Sanders in the primaries even if you think I’m “throwing away my vote.” The more votes, the more delegates, and the more delegates, the better position we’re in to make ourselves seen and push our agenda at the convention. I realize Hillary surrogates would like us to throw in the towel. Ain’t gonna happen.
2. They are, largely, preaching to the choir. Brand new Democrats and independents, with few exceptions, aren’t here. We’re not the people you need to convince.
3. Above all, they are creepy. I don’t DO loyalty oaths. I don’t do them unless I truly want to, like becoming a Girl Scout. I will not promise to do anything under duress. My grandparents knew people who were asked to testify before HUAC. I grew up among Quakers, who don’t swear oaths at all. NO.
These diaries are pointless, boring, and counterproductive. They certainly don’t make me want to support Hillary any more. Think before you post one. No means no.
But while you’re here. . .
Will you promise to support Bernie if he’s the nominee? Because I remember eight years ago, a nominee who swore to fight right up to the convention, even though it truly was impossible, and a whole lot of people swearing they were going to leave the party and cause as much destruction as they could on the way out. Now, which candidate did they support? Slips my mind. But anyway, do you promise to support Bernie if he’s the nominee? Will it help if I post one of these diaries again every day?
