I understand being uncomfortable with Hillary Clinton given her record both at home and abroad. I understand the passion for Bernie, because I feel it too. I have been feeling the Bern since he announced! To this day, he is the best foot forward for the United States, his policies are ones that the United States desperately needs right now. His ideas are ideas that are finally ready to become reality with the steady hard work of building a political revolution over time. He has started the leg work and I think that we, as a people, are ready to start with him.
Whether or not this man gets the nomination for President, though, we have to be absolutely prepared to throw our weight behind the democratic nominee and immediately look to fixing Congress and making sure we don’t lose even more ground there. We have to start looking at statehouses and governors in preparation for 2020, when this whole country is once again up for redistricting. Hell, we have to fight tooth and nail just to put up a supreme court nominee to replace Scalia.
We have a lot of goddamned work to do just in the next 11 months to get our shit together. We can’t do that if we are sitting here squabbling over who will be our nominee. If that happens to be Senator Clinton, I am not going to sit on my hands and whine about it, I am going to get to work. I don’t prefer her, sure, but we have a republican party to stop and from the time that we know for sure who our nominee is all the way up until November 2016 and beyond, we have to be all hands on deck here. Meaning that we cant be fighting each other, demanding explanations for votes, and just generally being nasty to each other.
And I am not just talking about here at dailykos. The Bernie/Hillary fight is everywhere. I am speaking to all democrats with this diary. We have to stop fighting each other at some point and all work to defeat the TrumpCruzRubio monster the GOP has created. Trump especially and particularly. We absolutely must ensure that sociopathic fascist doesn’t get anywhere near those launch codes. The man is a complete and total nutball.
So yes, I expect my fellow supporters of Bernie Sanders to get comfortable with Hillary Clinton and quickly. I expect my fellow supporters of Bernie Sanders to realize that they, along with all other democrats, liberals, progressives and the like are the firewall against fascism this election and that they have a duty and responsibility to themselves and the rest of the American public to vote for the democrat all the way down the ballot, no matter how uncomfortable you are with the candidate. I expect that. If you can’t do that, fine, but know you are not one of my allies if you decide to go bernieorbust. Nor are you one of Senator Sanders, or any democrat’s ally. At that point, you are being hopelessly selfish and myopic. At that point your cynicism about the system is actually harming real people.
So sure, I have my reservations about Hillary Clinton, her whole apparatus, the Clinton Foundation, her dealings abroad, her time as SoS and what not, but goddamn it I will not see this country turned over to the likes of Donald Trump and his Brownshirts, “Everybody hates” Ted Cruz, or Marco “the Kid” Rubio. I would crawl over broken glass and bio-hazardous waste just for a chance to see those fools barred from taking office, and to re-elect democrats as my representative, senators, and state reps.
We all have a duty to act responsibly, being informed and politically aware liberals/democrats/progressives. We may not always like it, we may moan and complain and gripe when the time comes, we may have to take a shower when its all over, but you know what we save this country from fascism. Whether you believe it or not. We do. And its time once again for us to do that, and start the process of winning back the legislative branch of our government, statehouses and governorships at a state level. That is my belief. Unite or lose, and not just lose, but lose with effects that reverberate 20 or 30 or 40 years down the line. That is what is at stake.
Anyway. Its nearly time for me to go to work. See yall later!
