Last week I voted for Bernie in Arizona. This is the second time in my life I voted for Bernie, the previous being my first election in 1988. It appears that like the first time I voted for Bernie, he’s gonna lose. So yeah, the only two times I’ve voted for Bernie he lost, its all on me I guess. Sorry fellow Berners
To be clear, there is still an outside chance that Bernie might win. I doubt it, but I do not begrudge others still think he will, and I certainly advocate for all of those who have yet to vote to VOTE FOR BERNIE. He’s the better candidate, and will truly make America a better, more caring, country. I would far prefer to be wrong in my belief that he’s lost this one.
But here is the point of my diary. If I am right, and Bernie’s campaign is in its slow decline, over the next few months, Bernie voters are going to slowly accept that they will be voting for Hillary in the general election. Once this whole thing is done, Bernie will also endorse Hillary.
So this is my suggestion to Hillary supporters. As Bernie supporters say they will be voting for Hillary in the general, here’s what you say…
I’m glad that you are supporting Hillary in the general election. Would you be willing to donate to, or volunteer for, her campaign?
Do not say “I’m glad you finally have come to your senses.” Do not say “its about time.” Do not say “Why did you support Bernie for so long?”
To be clear, many of the Bernie voters who will be voting for Hillary in the general election will hold their noses while they vote for her. Some will vote for the lesser of two evils? Some will vote for Clinton despite the fact that she is a Wall Street loving, oligarch, war monger who killed Vince Foster while fellating Henry Kissinger. Wanna know what you say to all of those people?
I’m glad that you are supporting Hillary in the general election. Would you be willing to donate to, or volunteer for, her campaign.
Here’s the gig. Now is not the time to spike the football, as Kos says it. Its not the time to demand that former Bernie supporters love Hillary. All of us preferred Bernie to Hillary, some more than others. But a vote is a vote. Do not demand that Hillary voters share your love or enthusiasm for her. Accept the vote of former Bernie supporters graciously, even if they say nasty things you disagree with about Hillary. Anything else runs the risk of losing that vote, and increases the chance that a genuine fascist wins the presidency. A vote for Hillary is a vote for Hillary, whatever the reason—accept it graciously.
So please, whatever the reason someone says they will be voting for Hillary in the general election, simply say…
I’m glad that you are supporting Hillary in the general election. Would you be willing to donate to, or volunteer for, her campaign.
