Okay, rant time. Our wonderful state has 6 congresspeople. 5 are Republicans, including a "Freedom Caucus" Freeloader who says he only wants to work 17 more days this year and still get paid.
ALL FIVE OF THOSE 'PUBS ARE RUNNING UNOPPOSED.
In a year when the 'Pub brand is toilet paper, no one is even bothering to show up. Because it's "hopeless." They're "safe" seats.
Meanwhile, in my home parish, Cedric Richmond is in the single most Democratic district in the US. There is no safer seat.
Yet he has a Republican opponent.
You don't always run to win. YOU RUN TO MAKE THEM SPEND MONEY. That they won't have to throw at tougher races. That has always been the point of the 50-state strategy, from the time it was known as “Project 90” and no one outside of Vermont had ever heard of Howard Dean.
I’m really happy to get to vote for Cedric again. He’s a solid Dem who gives great constituent service.
I’ll bet a lot of Democrats around the state would like the chance to vote for a congressional candidate of their party this fall. Will they get that chance?
Filing deadline is July 22. If you live in the Sportsmans’ Paradise, maybe consider running for Congress. Probably won’t win, but, hey, you'll never have a bigger adventure on your summer vacay.
