After a Tucson, Arizona, veteran claimed he had been poisoned while serving at Fort McClellan in Alabama, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick signed on to a measure that could help veterans like him discover the truth, reports KOLD News 13.
David Goodman believes he, and thousands of other vets, were poisoned when they served at Fort McClellan in Alabama.
Goodman served at the base in the '80s, and has been suffering from a myriad of health conditions for years.
Republican Rep. Martha McSally and Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick have both signed on to a bill that might help find the truth about the exposure vets dealt with at the army installation.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has acknowledged that former service members based at Fort McClellan "may have been exposed to one or more of several hazardous materials," albeit at "low levels," it claims.
The measure known as the Fort McClellan Health Registry Act stands little chance of being taken up by the GOP-led Congress, but it's one of several veterans’ issues Kirkpatrick has supported. She is challenging Arizona Sen. John McCain for his Senate seat this fall.
