When I started this campaign, I was told multiple times about the challenges of running a grassroots campaign. These warnings consisted of telling me that “Grassroots” candidates very rarely win congressional races, especially when the candidate is a first-time candidate. May they turn out to be correct? Maybe. But is there a strong chance that we prove them wrong and show that money does not buy elections and that the people’s voices once again matter in American politics.
While we are going up against two establishment opponents, despite what you hear, both of my candidates are the establishment, big money candidates, we are making great progress in our race here in Southern Nevada. This campaign isn’t easy, and that’s how just how I like it! Earning the trust of your constituents shouldn’t be an easy feat and should come with great challenges, something I’ve loved doing since this campaign began.
What truly makes me proud in this campaign is that we never wanted or sought the establishment’s support. From the very beginning, we have been people funded, and people-powered; how a true Progressive campaign should be operated. We are relying on small donors who can give $1 and $5 to fund this campaign, and while we won’t have the greatest resources in modern political history, we have volunteers and supporters who are dedicated and driven to win this campaign.
I chose to run in this election because it was the time that WE had our voice heard and had a say in the decisions that are being made every day in Washington that affect our day to day lives. For too long, we have had “leaders” in Washington who forget where they came from because they weren’t put there by the people but instead by big money donors.
To know who I am, you can see some of my diary’s here on DailyKos. I am a “Safety Net” Democrat, who has been helped by social safety net programs, such as Social Security Disability, Medicaid, and Medicare. Without these programs, I may not be here today, and I certainly would not be in a position to run for Congress and protect these extraordinary programs that help millions of Americans who are in need of a little assistance.
So, today we have a fundraising deadline, and I’d like you to join in our campaign to return the power back to the people and support a grassroots campaign that is fueled by the people, not powerful donors or establishment elite. I need your help, and your donation will be the difference in helping us push back against big money opponents who think they can buy this seat. Together, we can give representation back to the people of the 3rd Congressional District in Nevada. That’s why we are ‘Together For Nevada’!
Thank you,
