Back in the day when they did not call Saturday and Sunday — “weekend,” time must have felt like
a heavy load. Thank you, Labor Unions!
Mondays. Mondays have a reputation for being Mondays. Really.
It is related to something called the “weekend effect” wherein stock returns are lower, self harm occurs at a higher rate. Also, calls to the STD hotlines witness an uptick on Mondays.
I’m expecting this Monday to be a bit manic. I may be over-predicting. Or not. I’ll find out tomorrow.
Follow me below Itzl:
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK,and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power
outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! If you would like to write a diary, let us know in a comment.
We have a current diary schedule. If you would like to fill in as a writer sometime, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
We are still looking for a few back-up writers. Please contact weck or FloridaSNMom or let us know in the comment section. We would love it if you joined our list of writers!
On the other hand we, consistently, overestimate how bad our moods will be on Monday morning.
Even in the face of regular repudiation through experience, we generally continue to underestimate Mondays. Traffic, even, is generally lighter on Mondays. We resist the week because it is structured and we have less freedom with time. However, the weekend, when we are supposed to have more freedom to choose activities, we end up spending within structured activities which mirror paid work.
It all ends up being about how we over predict and under predict how we will feel for each day.
Here’s a Buzzfeed link showing in gifs some fearsome (not really. But very funny...) over and under predictions.
Here’s a tabloid’s take on Mondays. I like tabloids. Sometimes they are the only information sites that make sense.
Some common Monday Moans:
- You dread your working week
- You always feel more tired on a Monday than any other day
- You're already missing the weekend
- It takes you a while to get back into work
- You had too many late nights over the weekend
- You over-indulged on food and drink at the weekend
- You had a particularly active couple of days
- You always have a mountain of emails to catch up on
- You spent much of the weekend travelling around
- You always feel a bit poorly on a Monday
