There’s a diary up now that claims that Bernie Sanders has “lost his way.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I don’t think Bernie has “lost his way.” I think he has finally realized what he’s dealing with. What we are witnessing is a Clinton campaign that resembles the 2008 Clinton campaign — vicious and relentlessly underhanded.
Clinton and her campaign never thought Sanders would pose a threat. Never. But Clinton’s own inadequacies as a candidate have been on display from day one… Her hollow and phony “listening tour”; her sweet talk about Sanders early on (before he became a real threat); her own lack of campaign skills that lead voters to question her sincerity and trustworthiness; and, now, her campaign’s viciousness against Sanders because, well, he has the temerity to not go away like she and her campaign thought he would or should.
He hasn’t “lost his way.” He is dealing with a vicious political machine fueled by privilege and outrage. Both Hillary and Bill are absolutely outraged that Sanders hasn’t gone away.
In many regards, her failure to put him away is more of a comment on her own foibles as a candidate than it is on Sanders’ ability to giver her a run for her money (though, I think Sanders is a much better politician than many gave him credit for at the outset).
The Rec list diary, and others like it, are just symptoms of the disease that infects the Clinton campaign. It’s the same disease that infected her campaign in 2008 when another “undeserving” candidate wouldn’t go away, much to the chagrin of Hill and Bill.
That Rec listed diary (by a brand new user) is, frankly, disgusting in its attempt to discredit Sanders while the Clinton camp is in full attack mode (as they’ve been since getting blown out in Wisconsin).
Par for the course from the Clintons. They really believe that they deserve the nomination, and that the snot-nosed Sanders should just admit it and move aside. (An attitude on full display among some front pagers here.)
That attitude is tiring, to say the least.
Sanders is a long shot to win New York. But I think I speak for many when I say that an upset win there would provide many moments of deep schadenfreude should Sanders beat her in her (latest) home state.
But “lost his way?” Not hardly. He just has finally figured out how truly ugly a Clinton campaign can be.
