And it’s been another week. Though somewhat more amusing.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
I got a birthday card last Monday. On the front, it had a cat looking around an interior corner. The caption read: “I considered jumping out from behind a corner to wish you a happy birthday ...”. Inside, it said: “… but at your age the shock could be dangerous.” It was from my mother.
Tuesday was a busy day, actually. I waited till I got to the bus stop to call my firstborn and wish her a happy birthday (38) — she likes to get up later than I do, but she does have to be at work at about the same time. I ended up with a manuscript to edit for final acceptance and a request from one of the other pediatric cardiologists that I do some edits on his poster we’ve been working on.
Wednesday was more work on the poster and something to do for the 3D printer project a different doctor is working on.
Thursday we had a for-real fire alarm, not a drill. I was alone in the office, so I unlocked and shut the doors after I grabbed my coat, hat and purse — it was raining at the time. It turned out to have been somebody burning some microwave popcorn.
Friday wasn’t particularly busy at work, but I did manage to get what work there was done. I left an hour early. I had ordered a couple of king-sized pillows online (the old ones were about 15 years old) and they arrived on Friday. The package was about 15” x 15” x 8”. The pillows were wrapped in several layers of plastic — shrink-wrapped, it looked like. One of them was about pancake thickness when I got to the final layer of plastic. When I finally got it open, the pillow poofed out to full size in about two seconds. The other one wasn’t mashed quite so flat, but it also poofed out — in even less time.
Saturday was brunch at Salty’s on the Columbia. My daughter has been getting all dreamy-eyed on the subject of bacon since I made the reservation. She says she only ate 8 pieces — it looked like more than that to me. The kids adored the chocolate fountain. The clam chowder was meh, but everything else I ate was pretty close to perfect. My daughter needed to do some shopping at Target on the way home, and bought the new Star Wars release. I have now seen the latest movie, having meant what I said about watching it as soon as I could do so in her living room. It’s a very good movie — I look forward to the next one on the same terms.
