In a Facebook Post NYC's Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum Calls on Her LGBT Congregation to Vote for Clinton.
Kleinbaum wrote that while she admires Bernie Sanders, she sometimes felt as though he was running for "Messiah.".

“Congregation Beit Simchat Torah (CBST) is a vibrant spiritual community and a progressive voice within Judaism. Founded in 1973, CBST attracts and welcomes gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender, queer and straight individuals and families who share common values. Passionate, provocative, and deeply Jewish, CBST champions a Judaism that rejoices in diversity, denounces social injustice wherever it exists, and strives for human rights for all people.”

OK FB world here I go again. Can we have a civil discussion about the upcoming NY primary? I continue to believe it is possible to resist the larger climate of name calling and character assassination when debating/discussing political differences.
This election process is endless and that depresses me -- but here we are and we work with what we have. I'm done with these debates.
I like both Bernie and Hillary. I am moved by anyone who chooses to go into public service and dedicate their lives doing so. Bernie has worked as an elected official for essentially all of his life and I admire him for that.
I am going to vote for Hillary on Tuesday. I am pleased that there are two good choices. Sometimes I feel that Bernie is running for Moshiach/Messiah. I want to vote for the best possible President of the US. I am confident that in this time, with these two choices Hillary is that person. She is not perfect, and I don't agree with her on everything. That's not my standard. I do hope to and plan to continue to be engaged in all ways I have at my disposal as an American citizen when she is President to influence her. (I am against the death penalty, for example)
I do believe that she is our best shot to have a positive influence in the Middle East. Ultimately, it will be up to Israelis and Palestinians of course. The military occupation of Palestinians is approaching 50 years -- That must end. Yes, Bernie got a lot of applause last night for (rightly) mentioning the need to respond to the Palestinian suffering and injustice. But Hillary brought it up at AIPAC which Bernie didn't even attend. At AIPAC -- where I could argue is a more hostile to mention of Palestinians -- she said,
"inaction cannot be an option. Israelis deserve a secure homeland for the Jewish people. Palestinians should be able to govern themselves in their own state, in peace and dignity. And only a negotiated two-state agreement can provide those outcomes."
If you will it it is no dream. I continue to believe in peace and justice for both Israelis and Palestinians.
I want a President who truly believes that Israelis deserve a secure country and Palestinians deserve their own sate in peace and dignity.
There are other reasons I will vote for Hillary, but that's enough for now. I welcome those who disagree with me, but if it gets nasty -- delete your comments I will!
In any case, VOTE VOTE VOTE.
shabbat shalom to all!
