In recent weeks there has been increased reporting on passengers being removed from planes because the “create a feeling of discomfort amongst some passengers” based on their appearance, apparel , race, or perceived religion. Now interestingly enough the passengers complaining about feeling uncomfortable were not instructed that they could de-plane and catch a later flight, instead people are having their civil rights, lives, and schedules upended by some airlines to accommodate the racist and bigoted passengers who want to foist their ignorance and bigotry on paying customers of color or other nationalities in the name of feeling uncomfortable?
Let just for a moment forget that these black, brown, and “other" people bags have been checked, multiple times. Our bodies are scanned and X-rayed, we are required to remove our shoes, briefcases, computers, jackets and other personal items place them in a carrier to be scanned again.
We have driving while black, walking while black, shot for being black, and now the airlines are putting people off planes for flying while black, or brown, or wearing a head scarf, or assumed to Muslim and therefore a terrorist all in the name of racist bigotry and intolerance. Even though the airline has allegedly performed all the safety checks required before we are allowed to even board the plane?
A stewardess/flight attendant after having a woman of color and Muslim removed from a plane admitted the woman had done nothing except make her feel uncomfortable. Switching seats is not forbidden, happens all the time. If the woman had violated some seat rule before the plane departed why wasn’t she just informed to return to her seat until the plane was aloft?(She and another passenger agreed to switch seats. The other passenger was not ordered off the plane). If your going to justify making people deplane based on “personal feelings” what about all of us who have had to endure the passenger sitting next to us with a screaming baby or unruly toddler, the stinky person, the loud chatterbox? As a parent and grandparent I can sympathize with anyone who’s child is fretful during a long flight and the passengers that have to endure the child’s dismay but you don’t have airlines asking the parents to deplane for the comfort of the other passengers ears or nerves before the plane prepares to take off when there is a baby on board. It would be wrong to do so, because parents with children have rights too! But if you look different you can be ordered off a plane in the absence of “any crime”!
The airlines are accommodating racism and intolerance in the name of service and safety? (That is just an excuse for racism and intolerance). Well if the person who feels uncomfortable around people of color, or babies, or those who speak a different language, or whose attire causes them unease then it is they who should be informed of the Federal Laws against discrimination or again afforded the right to deplane and let “them” catch a later flight and disrupt their schedule if that will make them feel more "comfortable". The people who were removed for the sole reason of being black or “different" should hire the best attorney money can buy and file a class action lawsuit. Enough of this ridiculous racist entitlement. What would happen if someone said they felt uncomfortable because the person sitting next to them” looks” like a racist or a bigot, do you think the pilot would order them off the plane? No! If a person of color complained about the white person next to them was staring and being rude do you think the pilot would order the offending person off the plane? No!
If these bigots don’t want to sit next to a black person, or a brown person, or a screaming baby, or are offended by another's dress attire then I recommend they look into other modes of transportation, and stop inconveniencing the rest of us with their racist and bigoted intolerance.
