The orange pinpoints are the location of each organized group of Daily Kos readers. If you'd like to join a group, click on a point and a box will pop up showing contact links. If you'd like to start a group, contact navajo for instructions.
A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |
Recently, my Mom went and had some sort of eye surgery done.
As a result, Mom can now see with near perfect vision out of both of her eyes for the first time since she was a child.
It has been rather difficult for Mom to hold back her excitement. As long as I can remember, she has either worn contact lenses or had the thickest pair of glasses that I have ever seen.
Which got me to thinking.
I’ve worn glasses for as long as I can remember, with all the teasing about being “Four Eyes.”
Since my mid-20’s, I have had sufficient vision insurance coverage where I could purchase and wear contact lenses if I want to; I simply waited to do so until I was in my early 30’s. My contact lenses were extended wear, so that I could wear them throughout the day without my eyes hurting and without replacing them with glasses for a period of time.
Thing is, I have a bad habit of falling to sleep while reading. So on several occasions, I would read without removing my contacts an putting on my glasses. As a result, my eyes would be red and swollen by morning.
But the real truth was (and is): I simply liked the way I look with glasses on.
So I stopped wearing my contact lenses and started wearing my glasses full-time again. I haven’t looked back since.
Mom tried to persuade me to at least think about having a similar eye surgery done but...I said no; I like the way that I look with glasses.
Today’s question: Does your vision need to be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or even eye surgery? If so, which do you prefer?
As always, this is an open thread

The 6th Annual BAK Picnic
The 6th Annual Picnic will take place on Saturday, April 30 starting at 2 pm. The venue will be the lovely and historic Agua Caliente Park on the north-east side. It may already be warm by then so Azazello will try to get there early to grab the shadiest spot. If you’ve been watching the messages you know that we’re trying to plan the menu, as in who’s bringing what, so there won’t be too much food like there was last year in Bisbee. I’ll bring meat-on-a-stick of some sort, a portable charcoal grill and some soda pop. Topics for discussion will include: Prop.123, the Race for CD-2 and Why Arizona Loves Daily Kos.

Battery Wallace picnic area in the Marin Headlands
Potluck and BYOB, sunscreen and lawn chairs, let us know if you need a ride
Please send navajo a kosmail if you’d like to attend.
“High in the hills of the Marin Headlands, well past the throngs of tourists along Conzelman Drive, Battery Wallace picnic area is a crown jewel of the region. Located close to the Point Bonita Lighthouse, the four tables and grills in this wide-open spot overlook the Golden Gate Bridge, with sea-to-sky views of the Pacific, San Francisco in the background, and beach coves sculpting the coastal landscape. Battery Wallace is exposed, so the best time to ‘cue it up is…now! Park your buns here for a few hours or a full day. Ladies and gentlemen, start your briquettes!” ~ from Weekend Sherpa
From Hwy. 101 take Alexander Ave. exit. Turn left on the Marin Headlands Tunnel Route (aka Bunker Rd.). Follow Bunker Rd. nearly to the end; make a left on Field Rd. going up to the Visitor Center. Go past the Nike Site and make your first left. This takes you to one-way Conzelman Rd., where you’ll turn right and reach Battery Wallace. No dogs.
