Many here will be off to the polls to cast their vote in the Democratic Primaries. Voting is our right, it’s our choice — voting is our voice. But some will stay home.
Not voting and assuming our candidate(s) will win, because we’ve seen it posted throughout social media, may be like a punch in the stomach regret the next day — a regret we can’t walk back. Many know that feeling well after not voting in the last two Midterm Elections and not voting in the 2000 Bush/Gore presidential election. Had more turned out, the dispute over chads would not have been an issue and the Bush/Cheney administration would not have invaded Iraq to start unnecessary wars that lead to the death over 100k innocent civilians and approximately 5,000 troops. Voting counts.
Below is an anonymous poll to help give us an idea of why some people won’t be voting. It’s important to know what kind of deterrents are keeping people away from the polls. If the main reason is voter suppression, it needs to stay in the national news, discourse, and in the face of lawmakers until remedied. Every citizen of age should have the right and access to vote.
One way to make it easier to vote would be to make elections fall on a holiday or on a weekend as in many developed countries. Many don’t realize the POTUS can use an executive order to make this year’s Presidential Election a national holiday. It would be a start and perhaps prompt an all around permeant change in American voting Here is one petition on the subject to
President Obama, 'Make Election Day A National Holiday' via Executive Order
Here’s the poll. You can let loose and be totally honest. It’s anonymous, so no one will know, and it will only take seconds and you’ll see instant results. If you don’t care about anonymity, feel free to expand on your answer in the comment section or make suggestions. The poll can’t be changed now that it’s published but it may help with future polls.
Cheers to all the voters. Here’s to winning back the House and the Senate — and a Democratic win in November.
