A 15-year-old teenager was accidentally shot in the collarbone during a family party this past Saturday. She was having a water gun fight. What say you, state of Texas?
“We come around here to get home and there's two people playing, like they're having a water gun fight,” said neighbor Rasheed Seals.
But deputy constables said somehow a real gun got in the mix.
“The man went over there to his car to get his dry clothes and he must have had the gun so he started playing with it and tried to do this and I thought he probably had it on safety and he accidentally shot the girl in her collar bone area,” said Stewart.
The good news is that the girl is in stable condition and expected to recover. The news report makes the strange distinction that this should be a “scary reminder for young neighbors,” not to play with guns. The 42-year-old adult male, with the real gun, is the person who shouldn’t be playing with guns. The 15-year-old girl having a water gun fight on a hot Texas day at a family barbecue is “playing” exactly how she’s supposed to play.
