Good evening, Kibitzers! We’ve been having some chilly weather, but over the weekend, it warmed up and became lovely outside just in time for me to spend most of the time indoors, trying to iron out my dad’s taxes. (I ended up filing an extension, but that was for a sort of extraneous reason — I think the real work is basically done.) I did take the time to go out and snap a few pictures of the early bloomers here, as opposed to the super-early bloomers, some of which got taken out by the recent snow and hard freezes. Now it’s supposed to get near 80 today and be warm and sunny all week, so I’m sure there will be even more flowers and more leaves in short order. Let’s drill down below the gray pile of tax forms.
And that’s it for flowers for now. I have a pot of lettuces on the back porch, protected from deer by a chicken-wire cage (perhaps needlessly, but what the heck), and am trying to get some herbs growing, but it’s still a little early here to plant anything tender in the ground. The thing about “global warming” is, it’s not just that it gets a bit warmer each date than the previous year (she says to the choir). As my dad told me years ago, “Heat is the engine of weather”, so with more heat, the weather becomes more extreme and more changeable, and we whipsaw back and forth between freezing and sunburning until there aren’t any more freezing air masses available until fall(-ish). So! We’ll just have to see.
How about where you are? We know that side pocket is already planting his awesome tomatoes and equally awesome garlic!
I’m going with nomandates’ copy until things calm down, not that we’ve had any problems in here thus far (thank you all for that!)
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who aren’t throwing pies at one another. So bring your stories, recipes, pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links to diaries or news stories that you think this community would appreciate. (We’re not doing rox/sux here.) Or just drop by and tell us about your weather. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well. |
