Harvard Business Review has an interesting study showing that about ¼ of men who think about their spouse earning more switch their support from Clinton to Trump.
I think this fact may explain some of the dynamics in the race, particularly the frequent attacks on Hillary for earning a lot. Apparently, it’s enough just to make people think about how much she earns, relative to average people (or Bernie) to convince a big chunk of men to vote against her. Maybe it’s less about whether she’s a knowledgeable-influential speaker or a corporate sell-out or a charitable fund-raiser or a corrupt influence peddler, and more about she threatens the male insecurity of being the bread-winner?
Of course, I’m sure nobody on this site suffers from this common sexist bias, so I’ll just leave it there and peruse any comments later. Have a nice day!
