Wow. So, Donald Trump won the Indiana primary tonight—and with it, or so it would appear, the GOP nomination, since Ted Cruz suspended his campaign in the wake of the results. There’s still John Kasich, but c’mon. Oh, and Carly Fiorina set a record for shortest vice-presidential campaign in history.
Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders has been declared the winner of the Democratic primary. He currently leads Hillary Clinton 53-47 with 71% of precincts reporting. That’s a big turnabout from pre-election polls, which all had Clinton winning. However, because Democrats award delegates proportionally, Sanders will make up almost no ground on Clinton’s big delegate lead.
Finally, there were a trio of notable GOP primaries further down the ballot tonight. In IN-Sen, Rep. Todd Young handily beat Rep. Marlin Stutzman and will be the heavy favorite to keep this open seat red in November. Two House races have not been called, and one is very close. In IN-03, Club for Growth endorsee Jim Banks is leading wealthy farmer Kip Tom 34-32 with 90% reporting. And in IN-09, free-spending carpetbagger Trey Hollingsworth is close to buying a seat: He’s now leading state Sen. Erin Houchin 34-27, with 60% reporting. Republicans should hold both of these seats easily in November.
