North Carolina’s Gov. Pat McCrory really let it all hang out, so to speak, during his 15 minutes on a Charlotte radio broadcast Tuesday of “The Big Show with John Boy and Billy.” Let’s recap, shall we? Just for starters, here’s McCrory’s “Houston, we have a problem” moment, courtesy of Craig Jarvis:
“Society is changing quickly and anybody who gets in the way is in trouble. And I might be in trouble. I might be looking for a side job over here.”
Hmm, ya think? It was a rather lucid admission amid a gale-force windstorm of grousing about “thought police” and “selective outrage” and “hypocrisy.”
“The national medias kinda think North Carolina did this. No—Charlotte wanted to be the bathroom police...”
With no due respect, sir, Charlotte didn’t create HB2, aka the “Birth certificates, please” law. You did. But hey, don’t stop there, you’re on a roll!
“Listen, do you want this to be dressing right next to ya—where you have one anatomy dressing right next to another?”
“This”? Did he point to something in studio? Make a gesture? Who knows, really, but it appears ol’ Pat was using “this” as a definite article to refer to either a person or their parts, because I somehow doubt “this” was employed as a respectful, gender-neutral label. Whatever he meant, McCrory wants more of “this” illuminating conversation.
“The sad news is, we’re not even talking about it.”
No, actually, everyone is talking about it thanks to you—you just don’t like what they have to say.
“This had nothing to do with gay or lesbian, this had to do with privacy. When someone goes to the restroom, there’s an expectation of privacy…”
Which is exactly why everyone ought to be toting around their birth certificates for random spot checks, no? Or perhaps we can just put ankle bracelets on the suspicious folks.
The Charlotte Observer just crucifies me and compares me to George Wallace and stuff—which is, that’s an insult…”
Bingo—you got that right, Pat. But otherwise, you delivered an Oscar-worthy performance in sheer ignorance about your role in the HB2 debacle. Damn all those meddlesome companies shunning North Carolina to do business in China and Singapore.
I think they’re making a mistake by getting involved in politics.
