All day long today, people approached me in a state of dismay. “How could this be who we are?” They asked. By the time I got home I was ready for dinner and some time with my fur family. Right away I got a call from my mom who was furious with the Trump nomination. She is 82 years old, not well, and a good and solid liberal Democrat. She had gotten into a fight with my father over something unimportant, and confessed to me that she was so distressed with Trump that she could hardly see straight.
I understood. As much as I always thought Trump could be great for a Democratic win, it has been nauseating to me to see that he has won enough votes to be where he is. And this is why I say this to Bernie supporters, here, and personally to my friends, “Yes, we need your vote.”
I cannot speak for the campaign. I cannot make promises that you want made for Hillary’s term of office, if she is the nominee, and if she wins the election. I have seen many posts by Bernie supporters who are insistent that Hillary supporters show them respect and that she and we need to earn their votes. Some Hillary supporters feel that they are being in some way threatened, and there is plenty of animosity between both camps — at least on this site.
Here is my take, no snark. Bernie folks, we need your vote. You are passionate people and you want all the right things, as I do. I do respect that. If I have offended you in any way, I apologize. I will not participate in any Bernie supporter bashing. Will I criticize Bernie? — sure, but without malice. I simply cannot process what Trump’s nomination means as to the character of so many of our citizens. It makes me sick. You’re on the right side. We are. My kittez need you. My mom needs you. I need you. Okay?
