Assemblywoman Michele Fiore has been a long-time gun advocate and the darling of the NRA, but her latest words could get her in trouble.
Last Sunday on a Las Vegas TV show, Fiore expanded on her belief on the right to self-defense. Fiore's belief includes the right to aim your gun at anyone who aims a gun at you, even if they are a law enforcement officer.
Reporter Cassie Wilson met with Reno Police Officer Timothy Broadway and asked him about his thoughts on her controversial statements.
"I'm pretty much appalled that a citizen would actually encourage someone to pull out a gun on an officer," said Broadway.
I don't think spending a billion dollars on ads is going to defeat Donald Trump. In fact, I don't think an air war with Donald Trump can be won. Therefore I don't think this is the way to beat him.
Donald Trump will be available to the media, he will drive ratings, and he will have plenty of free coverage for anything he says on social media. That will negate the value of any sustained air attack in the much slower process of negative advertising.
Instead, I propose Democrats fight the campaign asymmetrically. By spreading Trump out and making him fight across multiple fronts simultaneously in much more intense, but initially small scale fights.
I propose we take the national fight down the ticket and make it local. This would be a new way to campaign, but the Clinton Campaign has been road testing this idea. I think we need to see more.
We should focus on the local GOP officials in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and all the other contested states. Find a prominent Trump loving local nut, and elevate that person statewide to being the big target. In the heat of a national campaign, these people are bound to become unhinged.
For example, in Nevada Michelle Fiore is a local nut. She just recently said that citizens should point thier guns at law enforcement. She is a Bundy loving crazy person. She also just endorsed Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton should go to Nevada, repeat what she said about using guns against law enforcement, make a big fucking deal about it, and then wrap it up in a big ribbon and drop it right on Trump's desk. Let the local officials, like Harry Reid and Senate candidate Masto follow it up and pound it. The goal isn't necessarily to defeat Fiore. It is to introduce a series of monkey wrenches into the news coverage. Pound on Fiore locally, and then blame Trump nationally.
I've been giving this campaign some thought and don't the typical 'outrage' is going to be enough to stop Trump's wall to wall media strategy. Nor do I think all the negative ads in the world will change the equation in the electorate. A traditional negative campaign will work too, mind you. But I suspect Trump knows that and is expecting it.
