I know I am probably poking a wasp’s nest with this, but I’d like to assure you that that is not my intent.
I am a Bernie supporter, but one who expects (though I’ll admit still hoping I’m wrong) to be voting for Hillary in the fall. Kind of like the advantage I argue with my sister about being childless as sometimes and in some ways allowing me to see younger people in a different light, than those who’ve gone through the conditioning and stresses and strains of being a parent, I understand that, like my sister on the subject of children, Hillary’s supporters may very well see nothing but arrogance or malevolence in me addressing this.
If you look at that search, you’ll see that there are 314,000 results in under a second for the phrase “nasty mean enabler”, but since i didn’t put the quotes on the search, they are most certainly not all about Hillary and Drumpf. If you go look though, you will find that it takes until page six of the results to get one that is not about Hillary and Trump. In that quick peek through the pages to find that first, you should also note that it appears that there has not been one response yet from the Clinton campaign.
That is troubling.
Isn’t the Clinton strategy supposed to be a strong quick answer to any and all political attacks? Forgive me, if I might be using Bill’s old strategy, but I thought it was a tactic that Hillary herself had embraced and has used to positive effect.
I imagine that the exact place where this diary might get me in trouble with Hillary’s supporters is actually right here in bringing this up, because it is so easy to see that the bigot is beyond the pale and just throwing out more misogynistic garbage and I will certainly agree that this does seem untoward, but I’d like to assert that dismissing it as nothing but is big trouble.
The bigot is going to fight bareknuckled and will say all those things that normally are not said, particularly in plain words by a candidate himself and this is just the beginning. There will be more and my greatest fear with the anti-establishment mood of just fecking fed up might let these types of attacks work, because they also have that real ring of truth, whether you want to believe that or not.
Did I just piss you off, so you just want to tell me off? Please, feel free, because I truly understand, but what I am offering, like i do with my sister at times about her kids, is a perspective different than yours, which I, maybe in my arrogance, think you would do well to heed. I don’t hate Hillary. I expect to vote for her in the fall, but this is one of those attacks that I know will resonate with a great deal of people and work for some with this being Trump’s answer to her “woman card”.
For all of what you might not have liked about Bernie and what he has and hasn’t done, this is one of those places he didn’t go, even when Bill tried to lecture him about being sexist. Trump is going to go there time and time again and he is going to hit her with any and everything he can and in ways none of us are used to hearing, but for when it was aimed at republicans and we could kind of enjoy it. Get ready.
This statement is nearly forty eight hours old and hasn’t yet been answered by Hillary. I hope that as I post this and go search one more time, I find that she’s responded. She needs to. Yesterday. And as unpleasant as this is going to be, she truly needs to reflect to find good answers beyond “Donald’s a dick” or it could really cost her and us.
So we’re ready for Hillary. But is Hillary ready for Trump?
I certainly hope so.
Republishing update: I did find her answer from January.
“I have no response,” Clinton told CNN's Alisyn Camerota in an interview aired Tuesday evening on "Out Front."
“I am going to let him say whatever he wants to say. He can run his campaign however he wishes. I'm going to keep talking about what the next president will have to do starting Jan. 20, 2017,” Clinton said
Is this the right answer?
Update: SEE?!? we can play nice. for the most part this has been a great discussion with mostly hillary supporters taking me on respectfully and me responding in kind. i truly hope that my intention is understood that i’m genuinely trying to offer a perspective that is harder to get for her ardent supporters in hopes of strengthening her candidacy.
now i gotta go grill my dear old long suffering mother dear and sister mother some lovely filets gifted to us by mother’s freshman college roomie who she hadn’t seen in nearly sixty years and who visited a couple of weeks ago.
Happy Mother’s Day all you mothers and even you mother….ers, too. sorry, but that’s part of my charm or as my best loved mommy says, maybe i’m just rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. thanks for the great conversation.
