Chinese officials unveiled something called the “Uber-bus” a couple of days ago at the China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC). The Transit Explore Bus (TEB) will reportedly be able to carry well over 1,000 commuters at a time, costs less than underground railway systems, will be electric and replace up to 40 conventional buses, all while traveling around 38 miles per hour—OVER traffic.
A prototype will reportedly be deployed on the streets of Qinhuangdao, a coastal city about 300km east of Beijing, this summer.
The project has been greeted with anticipation in China, where traffic jams have grown as the country overtook the United States to become the largest car market on earth in 2009.
