Good evening, Kibitzers! As you may know, our dear side pocket had right-wrist surgery this week. He’s been doing pretty well with his left hand, but today he’s not quite up to putting a diary together yet and should not really be trying. I, on the other hand, have theater tickets tonight and will be out by the time KTK appears. So, he can host but not post, while I can post but not host. A match made in heaven!
I had to text nomandates in a panic not long ago. I should have had this diary finished and queued yesterday, but I got busy with other things and that did not happen. No problem! I had all day today! I was literally (yes, literally literally) walking into the room to sit at the computer when the power went out. Small wonder, because it’s been really hot and humid here yesterday and today, high 90s yesterday and 87 right now, with scattered thunderstorms. I called the power company, and their robot representative (who is called “Tin Ted” by everyone in my family, for reasons I’ll have to explain some other time) promised to call me when he knew something. I gave nomandates the heads-up that I might not be able to post.
Then, Tin Ted called and said he thought the power would be on within half an hour. And in fact, it came on within a couple of minutes. Good job, Ted! I hustled in and got working on this draft. In another five minutes, Ted called me back, and said he was very sorry but it would actually be a couple more hours until the power was back on. This had the effect of making me type faster. I will continue to try and produce something coherent, but as of now, what I’ve got so far is queued and scheduled, because if Ted is that uncertain, I really cannot tell how long the power will stay.
So: I am not a gardener like side pocket, and I don’t have enough sun to raise tomatoes properly (but I do live near an excellent farm where I can get good local produce all summer and fall). My dad went to some trouble a few years ago to build some raised beds and put a fence around them, though, and I don’t want to let them go unused, so I decided to plant herbs and also bush beans, which did well last year. I still have the other half of the bean bed empty; I might try and put in something fairly easy like radishes. Here’s what I’ve got so far:
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
Please support these Sunday-posting Kitchen Table Kibitzing friends with your recs and social media support!
