Sadness and disgust is how I feel in reference to Clinton’s “victory.” In my opinion she did not win. The convention has not happened. Her whole campaign has really been based on having been pre-chosen. The leadership and many members of the Democratic Party obviously did not feel that she could win on her own merits in an honest process. If they had felt otherwise, there would have been no need for all of the obstruction showered on the Sanders campaign. For her to be declared the “winner” the night before the CA primary, based on unverified information, reeks.
Would I like to see a woman elected to the office of President? Sure, if she doesn’t come with years of baggage that make her unfit for the office. Sure, if she were to win “fair and square” on the issues. Sure, if she had a strong reputation for honesty and integrity. Sure, if she has walked her talk long enough to be believable. However, to vote for someone just because she happens to be female is trivial and irresponsible.
Supporting Clinton means you support elitism and neo-liberal economics. It means you have no problem with US interference in the business of other sovereign nations, including the instigation of coups to establish governments more to US liking. It means you are not bothered by who she takes money from and how much. Do you really think there will be no paybacks?
For that matter, do you actually believe that the tiger has changed her stripes? That her new-found positions on minimum wage, trade agreements, taxing the rich and limiting Wall St., etc., will stick? She went there because the Sanders campaign pushed her there. Who will hold her feet to the fire if she becomes President? The Democratic Party electees don’t have a great reputation anymore for keeping promises.
What is very clear, is that Clinton supporters value “winning,” more than honest and unimpeded process and that, therefore, “the end justifies the means.” The Democratic Party has lost its way. Hillary Clinton may make it to the oval office, but it won’t be done honestly…and it won’t be done with my vote.
