The Daily Kos community was absolutely rocked by Jen Hayden’s news the other day. She has breast cancer. The good news is that it was caught at an early stage and her doctors are right on top of it. Jen is going to be very busy in coming weeks with treatments. She is, as she wrote, fighting for her life.
To support her healing, we are making a community quilt full of loving and supportive messages from you. This blanket is something she can take along with her to treatment (treatment rooms can be very chilly!), rest under at home, and read over and over. The power of your words will greatly help Jen in days to come.
How this works is that you give a short message in the comments below (something I can transcribe on a 4.5” square patch of muslin). I will use archival ink to put it onto a patch and heat set it with an iron for permanence. Then my sister and I will sew it in a colorful quilt for Jen. It will be a unique work of art, just for her, and you will be a part of it!
My sister and I make these quilts as a living. If you would like to donate toward the labor and materials for Jen’s quilt, here is a PayPal link — or message me for an address if you prefer a check. $20/message is suggested. That being said, please don’t feel you can’t leave a message if you can’t donate. We need your message! Trust me, it will have immeasurable value for Jen.
If you decide to leave a quilt message in PayPal, please Kos mail me as well to let me know. The way PayPal is now configured, it is easy to miss attached notes. But the best way to leave a message is in the comments below. I will {{{{hug}}}} you in response to your comment to let you know that I have collected your message. Or send your message by Kos Mail!
Click here for a list of our completed quilts. It is a long list!

In other community quilt news, we have all the messages for the Emanuel AME Church quilt and are beginning to put the top together. There will be one more diary for Denise Oliver Velez’s tribute quilt (no worries, she’s okay!). It will follow a quilt diary next week for gchaucer2. So look for those two diaries soon — gchaucer2 and Denise Oliver Velez.
