In front of a massive New York City crowd of “Christian” conservatives, Republican nominee Donald Trump made all kinds of promises while pandering to a somewhat skeptical crowd. According to the Washington Post, he dished out a nice big pledge to remove the ban for tax-exempt churches that currently disallows them use the pulpit to preach politics or get involved in political campaigns. Churches can legally preach anything they want, but if they take a political stand they risk losing their tax-exempt status which can add up to tens of the thousands and possibly millions for mega churches over time. (See petition at the bottom of this page.)
“You talk about religious liberty and religious freedom, you really don’t have religious freedom if you really think about it, because when President Johnson had his tenure, he passed a law that makes people very, very nervous about their tax-exempt status and they’re taking a lot of power away from Christianity. I’m not surprised to hear that is the #1 questions. And we, I think, it is the #1 question, we talk about religious liberty.”
”A lot of people don’t like to talk about it. A lot of people in church don’t like to talk about it. I think it may be my greatest contributes to Christianity and other religious, is to allow you to go, when you talk religious liberty, and feel that you need to go and speak over the mic if you like somebody, and want someone to represent you, you have the right to do it.”
As an added bonus for the crowd of conservatives, Trump promised to appoint anti-abortion/anti-choice justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. Some call it “pro-life” but most of us know that label is bogus as pro-lifers do not apply the same beliefs to sending troops to kill and be killed in wars, capitol punishment, the lives of mothers, or children once born.
“And there are numerous things that we’re going to be doing. For one thing, we’re going to appoint great Supreme Court Justices. And these will be Supreme Court Justices that will be great intellects, talented men in what they do - and women, but also be pro-life.”
Some Christian leaders at the rally remain hesitant to support Trump. That’s encouraging. Sadly, some of them said they preferred Ted Cruz. Baby steps. Either way, it should be noted that many Christians support Democrats, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders. Many people of color are Christians. The president of the United States Barack Obama and former President Jimmy Carter are Christians. And many Republicans are Christians. Unfortunately, it’s the loudest, most racist, homophobic and misogynistic pseudo-Christian extremists that often make the news. That may be because real Christians who follow the words of Christ don’t use religion to advance their own greedy and hateful agendas. In fact, the word for that is “blasphemy.”

Donald Trump will say and do anything and has throughout his campaign. These two new Trump promises only inspire more Americans to vote—and vote Democrat.
