My husband and I are watching the sit-in on CSPAN, streaming it on our computers.
A lot of people know that my husband owns guns. He collects firearms from the Vietnam era, and being poor, his ability to add to his collection has been sporadic. He wanted an M-16, which in 1969 was the standard US army rifle in Vietnam, as part of it. So far, he hasn’t been able to get one and he was planning that when he got the money from his mother’s estate that he’d get his M-16 or its derivative, an AR-15. It would be the last gun he needs for the collection.
Tonight, after listening to so many of these Representatives speak passionately, my husband said,
“We need gun control more than I need to complete my collection.”
I never ever thought I’d hear him say anything like that.
I’m quietly crying. This is amazing.
And I wonder who else is watching this, who else is quietly realizing… yeah, we need to do this. I need to accept some regulation in order to make things better for everyone.
Change sometimes happens loud, and sometimes very quietly.
