Paul Begala took down a Trump supporter who raised Benghazi with this elegant introduction to reality. Here’s a script for all of us who encounter “Benghazi!” as a reason to vote for Trump.
Do you know how many embassy and consulate attacks there were under George W. Bush? (Let them answer—they’ll either guess wrong or say, “I don’t know”, and it really doesn’t matter which.)
20.
Do you know how many Americans people were killed in those attacks? (Pause)
66.
Do you know how many congressional investigations were conducted into those attacks?
0.
Just remember those numbers: 20-66-0.
The point: Embassy attacks unfortunately happen and Americans serving their country are killed. That doesn’t mean that someone (read: a Democrat) is to blame for those attacks. Especially when the Republican House of Representatives voted to deny the State Department’s request for additional funding for embassy security.
Not that many Trump voters will be reached by facts. (A subject for another sobering diary.)
