A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |
What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you recently?
Decades ago when I had an infant to care for, a random mentally unbalanced and shirtless man tried to force his way into my house at 2 in the morning. All the while, he was yelling that if I didn’t let him in some mysterious “they” were going to kill him. It was rather harrowing. Since then I’ve been a bit sensitive to things that go bump in the night...and knock on doors.
A few nights ago the sounds of someone knocking on a door around 3:30 a.m. woke me up. As soon as I realized it was my neighbor’s door and not mine I tried to go back to sleep. I couldn’t do it as the knocking was soon replaced by the sounds of muffled conversations.
I could only make out an occasional word or two, but it was clear the knocker was in conversation with someone inside the house. It seemed as though the person inside kept insisting that the person the knocker was looking for didn’t live there.
I then began to think perhaps it was someone looking for me. Eventually curiosity gave way and I peeked out through the curtains to see who the knocker was. I couldn’t quite see the knocker so I put my head back down on my pillow. After a moment or two I heard a car pull up into the driveway.
When I looked again after another few minutes of overheard conversation, I saw a police officer shamble back to a patrol car in the driveway and leave.
A day or so later I ran into my neighbor and asked her what it had all been about. She told me that she knew nothing about it at all, but would ask her roommates. Turns out they all slept through the night and that no one heard anyone knocking on their door.
Was I dreaming? Was the conversation I overhead only between two police officers? Are my neighbors in denial?
As Always, This is an Open Thread!

Despite 90+ degree weather, eight Seattle readers of Daily Kos ventured through the heat to gather together for lunch Sunday June 5, 2016.
From bleeding blue, the organizer: “You know, I really enjoy these things. If you get a chance, please consider attending a meetup with fellow Kossacks in your area. That there are real people behind our usernames and avatars, is something that often (not always) gives me pause, and reason to delete a feverishly-written comment...and let things go.”
Koscadia, the readers of Daily Kos in Oregon, welcomed the newly transplanted asterkitty who recently moved from Philadelphia to Portland. Great Thai food was had by all.
