The Backyard Science group features The Daily Bucket. Here we—and you—can record our observations of the world around us. Insects, pretty places, fossils, climate, birds, flowers and more are all worthy additions to a Bucket. Please let us know what goes on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable, where you are located. Each note records a reference for the future, as we try to understand the glorious life cycles unwinding around us.

You might be a hapless gardener, if your carefully prepared newly seeded lawn never showed up, but meanwhile the grass is thriving under your raised vegetable bed.
You might be a hapless gardener, when your “official” squash bed is only half covered with vines.
But the bed you fertilized with your composted food wastes is so densely covered with squash, onions, tomatoes, and garlic, that you cannot even remember, much less find what you originally planted there.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN
Any garden fails worth mentioning, or memorialized in pictures? What have you noted in your area or travels? As usual, please post your observations and the general location in your comments. I’ll respond during the afternoon, in between working on an endless list of garden chores.
"Spotlight on Green News & Views" will be posted every Saturday at 5pm Pacific Time and every Wednesday at 3:30 Pacific Time on the Daily Kos front page. Be sure to recommend and comment in the diary.
