It should come as no great surprise that Donald Trump was not a fan of the Democratic National Convention. One of his more bizarre complaints about it, however, was that Hillary Clinton did not expressly congratulate him for being terrific.
During a rally in Colorado Springs, Trump said he tuned in to Clinton's speech "out of curiosity" to see if Clinton would mention his name and was disappointed she didn't congratulate him for winning the GOP nomination.
"I was curious to see whether she'd do a class act and not mention my name," Trump said. "Or mention it with respect, like, say, 'I'd like to congratulate my Republican opponent for having done something that nobody has ever done in the history of politics in this nation.'"
I’m not sure how Donald Trump thinks he has been a first in the history of American politics but I sure know where I think he has broken critical ground. So, Donald, allow me to congratulate you on the things I think you deserve credit for:
-
You have been the first to formally invite a foreign power that considers the United States its enemy to spy on us and interfere in our electoral process.
-
You have been the first to threaten to nuke Europe.
-
You have been the first to declare that the United States will use its military might to hunt down and kill innocent women and children around the world.
-
You have been the first to openly muse about killing journalists if you had the power to do so.
-
You have been the first to say defaulting on US debt obligations would be a great strategy for making America stronger.
-
You have been the first to declare That the US military is a mercenary force that will fight for money.
-
You have been the first to boldly praise and promise succor to our enemies.
-
You have been the first to say our alliance agreements aren’t worth the paper they are written on and that we cannot be relied upon to live up to them.
And these are just for starters! You have broken so much ground in Presidential politics it is honestly hard to keep up.
So, once again, congratulations, Donald Trump! May we all recognize exactly what your contributions have been.
