Get ready to see a lot more of this principled leadership from Speaker Paul Ryan, who on Saturday chose to entirely dodge Donald Trump's repulsive insults of Khizr and Ghazala Khan during a “This Week” interview.
Rejects what idea? That the Clinton camp wrote Khan's speech for him? That Ghazala Khan wasn't allowed to speak because she's Muslim? That Trump's made a lot of "sacrifices" himself by creating "thousands and thousands of jobs"?
Nope, Ryan doesn't reject any of those Trump rants, but "I've already denounced that before" will surely be his daily mantra straight through November. Meanwhile, Ryan did have time to promote his Washington Post op-ed about Clinton's "extraordinary lack of discretion and judgment."
That published on July 13, but today was obviously the perfect day to question Clinton's judgment. No word yet from Ryan on denouncing Trump's entreaty to Validimir Putin to hack Hillary—Ryan’s only denounced Putin.
Here’s Hillary Clinton’s response:
"I was very moved to see Ghazala Khan stand bravely and with dignity in support of her son on Thursday night. And I was very moved to hear her speak last night, bravely and with dignity, about her son's life and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country.
"This is a time for all Americans to stand with the Khans, and with all the families whose children have died in service to our country. And this is a time to honor the sacrifice of Captain Khan and all the fallen. Captain Khan and his family represent the best of America, and we salute them."
