Things have not been going too well for Donald Drumpf.
The Republican Convention was a disaster, by all accounts. And the denouement was Drumpf’s Acceptance Speech.
The Democratic Convention, on the other hand, was viewed by more people, and had an overall decidedly more positive reaction with voters.
The polls are in — and they don’t look good for the GOP.
And Drumpf just keeps stepping in it.
Beginning with the “air-kiss” of his VP pick —
Then stroking his daughter, Ivanka’s, body at the end of her introductory speech. This after multiple exclamations that he would date her, “if she weren’t my daughter.” —
Calling on Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to help his campaign by committing espionage on the Clinton campaign. Something that was arguably illegal, indisputably inappropriate —
Verbally attacking the parents of a KIA soldier who are, not coincidentally, Muslim Americans. Then continuing to attack them when a more prudent person would have cut their loses —
The revelation that his son, Eric, trashed a vacation rental in Iceland just before his wedding, after using it to entertain a group of local women. Leaving broken furniture, tons of booze, and an unidentified “white powder” all over the place, before departing in his father’s jet —
The issue of his tax returns, which gets more complicated, and which is not going to go away —
His claims the NFL contacted him regarding the upcoming debate schedule, when they didn’t —
Saying he would prevent Russia from invading Crimea, when it already has —
This list could go on, but you get the drift.
Compromising photos have now appeared in Rupert Murdoch’s The New York Post of Melania Trump. Some seem to think this is an attempt to draw attention away from “The Donald’s” ever increasing number of "problems.”
Others have a different opinion.
In the party of “family values,” Drumpf’s family is not exactly typical.
However will the base respond to all of this? Let alone the rest of the world? Like it or not, the President of the United States and his First Lady are expected to function on an International Stage. To do that, they both must maintain their dignity and command a certain level of respect.
Three months is an eternity in politics.
Even a week is a very long time.
