Imagine someone waiting for you every time you walk out the door, just to get a glimpse of you, for six months. He refuses to leave and even when restrained and taken away he escapes to come back. He's determined that one day you will be his forever.
Kind of creepy, right? Except if the stalker has four legs, a furry coat, and a waggy tail, it somehow becomes adorable.
A German flight attendant, Olivia Sievers, encountered a stray dog on the streets of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the year. Being a kind-hearted person, she shared some food with the lonely mutt, provided him with an airline blanket to keep warm during winter, and most importantly gave him some much needed affection. For Rubio (Blondy), that was enough to make him want to be with Olivia forever.
Olivia travels regularly between Germany and Argentina, staying at the Hilton Hotel in Buenos Aires. Rubio, as she named him, unfailingly arrived at the hotel's entrance whenever Olivia was in town and refused to leave throughout her stays. She sometimes varied her route during city outings to throw him off track but he always found her and glued himself to her side, following her everywhere she went.
When Olivia went up to her room for the night, Rubio parked himself on the hotel's broad welcome mat and would be waiting there in the morning when his beloved Olivia came out again.
Concerned about his well-being during her long absences from the city, she contacted a Buenos Aires animal rescue group. They secured Rubio and transported him to a re-homing facility for an eventual adoption. However, Rubio wasn't interested in replacing Olivia with anyone else in his heart. He escaped and on her next work trip to Argentina, Rubio was in his usual spot at the hotel, patiently awaiting the love of his life.
Olivia surrendered to fate and canine determination. She arranged transportation and paperwork and recently took Rubio back to her home in Germany. At long last, Rubio has the home, and the German gal, of his dreams.
I just want to tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye …
