This is what the GOP has come to. And I say the GOP because some polls are showing Trump with support from 87% of the Republican party. When reporters talk about Trump being dangerous and an authoritarian, they fail to mention that he is the fairly elected candidate of the Republican party! I firmly believe that Trump is the candidate that the GOP base has wanted for decades, and this should scare the hell out of the rest of America.
Katy Tur, who must have done something to really piss off her bosses, was assigned to the Trump campaign last year. At least she should get a good book out of this. Back in December she had to be escorted from a Trump rally by the Secret Service. Here's how she described the event:
SCARBOROUGH: Is that when [Trump] called you out?
TUR: He's called me out a number of times, but this is the one that he did in a -- I guess a more forceful way and it was after he announced the Muslim ban and the crowd was very -- and they always are, but they were very anti-media, thinking we were whipping up a controversy when he was trying to just put in procedures into place that would protect Americans. So he -- he was angry over some tweets, and he pointed me out in the middle of the crowd and it was jarring. I mean everybody turned and this one older woman, who had this like fearful look on her face, like "this poor girl." But the rest of the crowd was, I mean, just angry. I mean they were angry and at the end of it, at the end of it, one of Trump's -- I'm not going to say who, but one of Trump's people there got a Secret Service guy and said, "He's going to walk you to your car."
Of course the Trump campaign took steps to prevent this type of rhetoric from whipping the crowd up to riot proportions again. Yeah, right. Here are some of her tweets from last night’s Trump Rally.
This is who 87% of the Republican party supports! What that tells me is that there’s still room in the Republican party for an even more dangerous, more authoritarian, more racist person to rise and represent the “values” of the Republican party.
Trump and the GOP have tried to delegitimize Obama, Clinton, the election process, the Media, science, economics… Through this process they should have taught all of us that the GOP is no longer a legitimate political party in a functioning democracy and we should stop trying to pretend it is. This GOP must die! There’s no room in a democracy for a candidate like Trump, and a political party that overwhelmingly accepts him.
