I am writing this on the heels of having watched Nina Turner — former Democratic state senator from Ohio — sitting on MSNBC on a panel with some pro-Trump African-American pastor — refusing to say she would vote for Hillary Clinton (or not). Why? I mean, I have long considered Senator Turner to be an amazing advocate — long before this primary started. Doesn’t she see what this election is about?
I’m not concern trolling. Hillary is going to win this election, and no margin is large enough, as far as I’m concerned. Look at the numbers: She may go up and down a bit, but Donald Trump is more consistently in the 30’s in polls than not. And that’s not even looking at the electoral college.
But this is more about the start choice we face this year. I really don’t care if your momma is on the ballot as a 3rd party candidate. Either Hillary will win or Trump will win. Jill Stein won’t. Gary Johnson won’t. Evan McMillan won’t. So, this is what a binary choice means.
Actually, if you listen to President Obama, there isn’t really a choice at all.
Let me sum up:
Your choice is between Hillary Clinton, an extraordinarily qualified former first lady, US Senator and Secretary of State who has spent a lifetime working to help ordinary people of all stripes — but just happened to have her own email server…
And…
Donald Trump, who has a history of overt racism, bigotry, is a brutal, dishonest, mentally unstable and (somewhat) criminal businessman — but has nice looking grown-up kids.
Seriously. That’s your choice.
Even a bunch of Republicans think this is choice is obvious enough to support Secretary Clinton (although that’s become an excuse for some of our fellow progressives to “not trust” our candidate.
Enough of this. STFU. Whatever. Put on your big boy/big girl panties (your choice), and save our democracy. This election is about Donald Trump. That’s it. I don’t mean to demean Hillary — honestly — but the creamsicle dipshit is the entire question this year. And he is unacceptable. Not somebody we disagree with (although I’m sure we all do), not just somebody who has “some issues.”
Donald Trump is dangerous. For real. I could spend diaries (plural) expounding on why Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party ought to be President, regardless of her opponent. I could wax poetic about the history of electing our first woman President, or her incredible history of advocating on behalf of Americans of all stripes, or even the depth of her experience when compared to every other major party nominee in modern history, etc.
But that almost doesn’t matter. If Bernie was our nominee (or Joe Biden, or even Scooby Doo, I’d be saying the same thing).
Trump does one thing well: He gets attention. He’s got it from the press, he’s gotten it from Republicans, and now he’s getting it from the entire country. Did I mention he was dangerous. Would it matter if I put that in bold, underlined and italicized? Is that DANGEROUS enough for all of you now?
Enough of this false equivalency. The two of them are nowhere alike. Not even if you are watching this from another planet.
We have two months left. I don’t care how you do it: Give money, make phone calls, stuff envelopes, get in the ground game — but don’t be stupid (yes, I just went there). Don’t waste your time with some 3rd party nothing. Don’t stay home. We actually need Hillary Clinton to win this election. We need Democrats to win control of both houses. We need this era’s version of the KKK, the know-nothings, the crypto-fascist morons, to go away. For good.
This is a big moment for a mature, understanding choice. In short, quit your whining, STFU. Whatever. No vote trading, understand? Don’t give the Republicans even 1% more than they deserve (and they really don’t deserve much of anything). Get over yourselves, put on your big boy/big girl panties (your choice), and save our democracy.
Nina Turner’s excuse for not committing was that she was working on “the revolution.” Be careful, because revolutions — like most politics — can go in at least two directions. If you don’t vote for Hillary Clinton this fall you may very well get a revolution: The wrong revolution. And if you don’t participate in stopping this clown and his party, that’s pretty much what you deserve.
