Donald Trump is getting classified intelligence briefings. And if that simple statement doesn’t disturb you enough, consider how he answered Matt Lauer asking if he’d learned anything new or shocking from those briefings.
What I did learn is that our leadership, Barack Obama, did not follow what our experts and our truly — when they call it intelligence, it’s there for a reason — what our experts said to do.
Wow, that would be a bombshell if the intelligence briefings Trump was getting explicitly included the information that Obama was ignoring intelligence experts. Did the people briefing Trump really say that?
And I was very, very surprised. In almost every instance. And I could tell you. I have pretty good with the body language. I could tell they were not happy. Our leaders did not follow what they were recommending.
Wait wait wait. Trump learned that President Obama ignored intelligence experts because Trump has pretty good with the body language? And he could tell they were not happy?
Here’s another possibility: Trump is 100 percent full of crap. He got nothing from body language. He was simply looking for something on which to hang his attack on Obama, an attack that he was going to make no matter what. Another possibility: The experts briefing him did indeed have very unhappy body language ... because they were briefing an apocalyptically bad presidential candidate who could be relied on to run his mouth about what happened in the briefing.
OK, so Trump had pretty good with the body language and learned something that—surprise!—confirmed his existing beliefs. Did he learn anything about defeating ISIS quickly? “I didn’t learn anything from that standpoint.”
Hillary Clinton, by the way, was asked Thursday morning if her experience of the briefings echoed Trump’s. She answered that she would never talk publicly about a classified intelligence briefing.
