no, sorry, not the actual returns. But perhaps something that everyone should borrow from The Washington Post. At 3:27 PM EDT today, Drew Harwell posted
All the excuses Trump has given for why he won’t release his tax returns
It has three sections to it, each with multiple examples cited, each example with a hot link to provide the evidence.
First, Excuses that Trump and his supporters have given for not releasing tax returns
12 statements from a variety of people ranging from Donald Trump himself
- Trump: “I’m being audited … so I can’t.” (See next section.) (Repeatedly since February)
through the likes of Paul Manafort, Trump’s son, his campaign manager, and among others perhaps his most annoying and obnoxious surrogate, Jeffrey Lord:
Jeffrey Lord, commentator: Tax returns are “a political gimmick, a gotcha … Political opponents are going to go through there and look to make issues out of things.” (September)
Next comes five statements on Why IRS audits would not prevent Trump from releasing his tax returns of which I offer the 2nd
His tax attorneys said returns from 2002 to 2008 are no longer being audited. Trump said he will still not release those returns because “they’re all linked.”
and the 5th:
Trump can delay the completion of his audits.
Then there is What we would learn from Trump’s tax returns which contains four bullet points, of which I will only share the last, including its sub-bullet:
How much (or how little) money he keeps in foreign accounts (including in Russia)
This is followed by photographs of Trump signing a massive return.
By all means — go read the piece, pass it on, and perhaps print it out or book mark it for future reference.
But don’t expect Trump to release his returns, despite his earlier statements.
By now it should be clear — it would be the end of his campaign were he to do so.
