What Are You Working On? is for all things hand-made, home-made, and creative in a variety of mediums.
Hello, WAYWO-ers! Been awhile since you’ve seen my fuzzy mug around these parts. I’ve missed sharing my artistic projects with you folks and I hope to post more often to WAYWO. Our dear vgranucci was kind enough to open the door and the cat in the tufted ears came back. There’s a lot more of you creative Kossacks out there with projects to share so do drop a kosmail to vgranucci, or drop a comment in this diary expressing your interest in sharing and we’ll make sure you get to reserve a spot to post about your arting, your crafting, your home repairs, your car customization, your woodworking, your... and help brighten up the place with your brilliance!
Show this cat more shiny stuff!
Seriously, far too many open slots in the schedule, friends.
Have I still got your attention? Good, look over here!
That said, it’s time to share a bit of what I did during my summer vacation.
I have been making a more concerted effort lately to find moments during those simmering summer days when I’ve been traveling about with my family and friends and sneak off somewhere to do some sketching.
When we went to the pool by an old mill and everyone had had enough splashing and kicking, the rest of the group was content to stretch out in the grass like a bunch of elephant seals on a California beach. But not Marko… I’m not particularly fond of rotisserie-style entertainment. I sat up and dredged my sketchbook out of my bag.
That same week, when a rainy morning the day after an extra long hike kept nearly everyone in bed a couple extra hours, I took advantage of the time and took a walk in the drizzle until I found a pleasant roadside gazebo to shelter me while I sketched.
Just a few weeks ago we got back from a trip to visit the Elbe Sandstone Canyon which spans a portion of the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. I’ve been posting diaries of photos from the trip. Here are a few links to Part I, Part II, Part III and Part IV. The title image for this diary is from our first day across the border in Germany when I opted out of touring the inside of a fantastic fortress (seen in Part II) and instead perched myself outside the gate and began a watercolor painting.
On a couple of other occasions I managed to find brief moments to get some sketching in. I skipped out on a guided tour of one historic Czech home to sit in front of— hey, another old mill!
And then there was the time we were all lounging around in a small park on the main square of a small village and I finished my snack and began a quick sketch of the local church.
Then, during our second trip into Germany, the gang went to pickle themselves in the salty brine of a spa in Bad Schandau while I wandered the town looking for a quiet spot to sit and sketch. I did eventually find a most pleasant, shady corner in a little park.
And tomorrow I hope to get out with an old friend and do some sketching in Prague. And maybe later that afternoon we’ll be stopping in on a life drawing class to draw some naked people.
Maybe next time I’ll share those pictures. Or maybe you’d rather see the stone and concrete work I’ve been doing on our place out in the country?
In the meantime, won’t you please share something of your creativity in the comments below? What are you working on?
