I’m not one to do the Nazi comparison thing. I mean it winds up being a lot of blow back. But this morning after reading how Trump, Conway, and Priebus were doubling down on the Hillary Clinton started the birther movement lie, and how they were not being challenged I wanted to do some research on the whole idea of the Big Lie, My meanderings took me to a page of Joseph Goebbels quotes and I am having trouble breathing.
“It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise.”
Just keep repeating the lies over and over again, if you know your audience you can convince them a square is a circle. When journalists do not call out a lie immediately they are playing right in to Goebbels play book.
“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”
Is there any quote that better describes Trump’s recent “press conference” at his hotel?
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”
This is my fear for the debates. He will not answer any questions. He will simply keep repeating a few points (lies?) over and over. And the moderators will say nothing.
“Success is the important thing. Propaganda is not a matter for average minds, but rather a matter for practitioners. It is not supposed to be lovely or theoretically correct.”
Trump believes the only measure of what he has to say is his success. It does not need to be correct.
Folks, we are in a great deal of trouble here.
