Hiring Home Help
In last week’s Kitchen Table Kibitzing I mentioned that I was planning to purchase new speakers for my living room and relocate the living room speakers to another room. I got some good speaker advice in the comments and I took it all in. I went to the store and listened to many, and purchased two Bowers & Wilkins M1 speakers. By schmoozing and ingratiating myself I was able to receive a 10% discount. Once home, I opened the box and read the instructions for mounting. Six pages of inscrutable diagrams describing possible configurations, without one word of explanation.
I don’t want to spam, but I connected with Home Advisors. They sent me links to three services which could do my job as I had described it. Soon thereafter I received calls from the three. These were small businesses and I want people to know, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. I would have happily chosen any of the three; I accepted the first to call.
Mr. Hernandez did a spectacular job in short order and cleaned things up perfectly. Then we sat down together on the couch and I played Sultans of Swing. He had never heard Knopfler but agreed he is the top guitarist of all time. I was so pleased I paid him 50% over his bid.
These are the living room speakers. They are small but provide amazing sound. Maybe not as much bass as before, but I dislike excessive bass and even gave away my subwoofer. It actually made our small living room look larger. The wires will be covered by some cover my son will design; this is because Mrs. side pocket required that no holes be drilled in the wall. I follow orders from that quarter (or from navajo).
The next step was to run wires under the house to the other end where the dining room is. He connected my erstwhile floor speakers there. They are PSB 400's and I have always been pleased with them. Well. the dining room is much larger than the living room and has wonderful acoustics. The PSBs sound better than ever there. So now I can have speaker A, speaker B, or both,
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
