Welcome to Connect! Unite! Act!
A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |
If you are new to the site or have been lurking, we invite you to join in the friendly banter here. Don’t be shy, you have something to say. Say anything, it will be well received. Join any of our communities at Daily Kos, just for camaraderie!
I had a completely different diary ready to go last night before Hillary’s outstanding performance in the first presidential debate.
Has anyone has heard from family members, friends or co-workers who watched the debate and had their opinion of Trump changed for the worse and their opinion of Hillary changed for the better?
I don’t know any undecided voters. Everyone I run into is either very strongly pro-Hillary or very strongly anti-Trump. So I don’t know anyone who needs the debates to decide who to vote for.
But a lot of folks on DK live in red and purple areas where undecided voters are not as thin on the ground.
We’ve heard a lot about soft support for our ticket and I have a feeling the strong debate performance firmed up some of that support. I didn’t need my mind changed, I was already a Hillary voter, but last night did make me breathe a sigh of relief about future debates, the appeal of our ticket to moderates, and the likelihood of wavering Democrats coming home to the Clinton-Kaine ticket.
Polls show the undecided vote is very small, but some of these states are so close that a relatively small number of currently undecided voters could tip the balance in Florida, Ohio, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.
How can anyone be undecided at this point in the election?
David Sedaris nailed it in 2008 and it is still true today:
To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”
To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.
Questions of the day:
What are you hearing from family and friends about last night’s debate? Did last night’s debate change anyone’s mind? Do you know any undecided voters?
