Dear Dr. Stein-
First, allow me to commend you on a lifetime of social and ecological activism that has helped put you at the top of ticket for the Green Party. As a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard and Harvard Medical School, your brilliant intelligence is undeniable.
I would like to appeal to your exceptional prowess as a thought leader and request that you leave the presidential race. Please allow me to present my case as to why this provides the best opportunity for an advantageous outcome with regard to the causes that you have identified as personal priorities for our country.
I went on-line and read your interviews and the Green Party’s 2016 platform. I then went to Hillary Clinton’s website to see where she stood on the issues that you stated are most important to you. In my estimate you and Secretary Clinton agree on 94% of the policy priorities set forward by your respective campaigns. I then compared them to Donald Trump’s policy stances, such that they have been revealed, and you may not be surprised to learn that there is virtually no areas that you, the Green Party and Trump are in agreement. So the question becomes, if by chance the Green Party takes on the role of spoiler in this very close election, would it not be counter intuitive to continue? Should Donald Trump win, he would surely pick SCOTUS justices, cabinet and agency directors for labor, EPA and education that would undermine, maybe indefinitely, the advancement of causes you have fought for your whole life. What would be accomplished by a Jill Stein candidacy should it increase the probability for a disastrous outcome? What if the margin is so close that your support would have saved us from forces that imperil the planet and increased the odds for a real danger of human extinction? You of all people certainly understand that this is not hyperbole, climate scientists say we are are in the path of a mass extinction happening right now.
Again, drawing on your great sense of mission and brain power, would it not be better to align yourself with the Clinton White House post election and help unify your supporters and hers toward the common goals you all share? The Democratic platform is the most progressive and ambitious in our lifetime thanks to fellow liberal Bernie Sanders. Progress is being made, though not as quickly as we would like, but consider the consequences of a Trump presidency and the loss of all that has been accomplished.
Finally, I ask that we not allow perfect to be the enemy of good; that we take what has been achieved and build on it. Revolutions happen in increments not with a single act of protest. History tells us that progress is not stabilized or made permanent by a revolution that cedes the ground that has already been won.
Please consider ending your candidacy and go forward with Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton to help insure that we don’t allow the election of this very real existential threat to America and the world. Your personal sacrifice shall be rewarded with the realization that what you hold dear, a chance for a safer planet, will live on.
Thank you for your consideration of my request.
Sincere regards,
Mike Marable
