“It’s not a lie if you believe it” — George Costanza or Donald Trump’s brain.
Somewhere along the unending 2016 election, Donald Trump became perceived as the champion of the American Working person. He was against trade deals, hated on foreign countries, saying immigrants are taking away jobs from hard working Americans, etc. Yet a close look at his record showed he was no more a friend to the American Worker than Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are friends. (I’ve been told they don’t like each other. If this has changed, I will come up with another comparison!)
Trump has stiffed workers, refused to pay full price for services he signed binding contracts on, hired undocumented workers to build Trump tower or model his fashion, hires foreign nationals to work his clubs, the list goes on. However, none of this has stuck. One of the reasons is that a human face that has been damaged by Trump economically has not been mass advertised to the American public.
The controversies that stick to Trump have a human face to share. From the Khans to Machado to Trump University students, you had actual people come forward on camera and tell what Trump had done to them or made them feel. Actual people made the controversies feel like they could be your own and you empathized with them greatly.
Well, it looks like ProgressOhio has finally made ads that show how Trump really treats American workers by having them as star witnesses in ads against Trump. In this motherjones article here: www.motherjones.com/… 3 ads have been made that highlight a business that was hurt severely by Trump. You are told how much Trump stiffed them and the consequences of those actions.
Working Class supporters, leaners or undecideds of Trump don’t seem to care too much about his controversies involving immigrants, muslims, women, etc. They are mainly concerned about their pocketbooks. When a nominee says they will fight for the working class, but in actuality they fight the working class, that changes how you are perceived. These ads show Trump doesn’t care about the working class, he only cares about himself.
I hope the Clinton campaign picks up these ads and starts airing them in all the swing states.
