Pictures from a late afternoon walk along the Schuylkill River in early autumn.
Not a lot of foliage color change yet here in the city. Some of the undergrowth plants are starting to show yellows and reds though. Fewer plants blooming than a few months ago, and some that were vibrant a few months ago are on their last legs for the season.
Bumblebees and honeybees about, but fairly few flies or wasps seen this late in the day.
The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. |
Most of the cormorants were perched on the wire that supports the safety barrier that stretches across the river above the dam. I counted 44 cormorants on the wire, and there were 3-4 move still swimming about in the river.
The side trail I like to walk where the mountain mint patch is located is still closed off due to a washout.
