Kevin Yoder, Representative in Kansas CD-03 has a long and pretty troubling history with predatory lending. Last year, Representative Yoder was the target of an ethics investigation, linked to his acceptance of significant funds from the payday loan industry while a bill regulating them was on the docket.

An ethics complaint has been filed against U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, alleging the Republican received a litany of campaign donations from the payday loan industry in the weeks surrounding his support of legislation that removed regulations on payday lenders. On March 16, 2011, Yoder co-sponsored H.R. 1121, legislation that would have replaced the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau with a five-person commission.
Now, thanks to the work of the CFPB, the organization Rep. Yoder had hoped to dismantle, some of Yoder’s most significant donors face major fines.
Justin Wingerter of the Topeka Capital Journal lays out the problem:

James Carnes and Scott Tucker, two Kansas City-area businessmen ordered by federal judges to pay restitution for duping payday loan customers, donated more than $160,000 to federal candidates and political parties during the past decade, including 17 members of Congress tasked with overseeing payday lenders.
Tucker and his business partners were ordered by a Nevada judge last week to pay $1.2 billion in restitution to customers they deceived into paying exorbitant amounts for small loans.
Jay Sidie, speaking to Wyandotte County Democratic party members in September, noted that Kevin Yoder’s continued acceptance of campaign funds and support from predatory lenders was “troubling” and seemed “unethical”. Sidie, who has worked in finance, continued this argument in Johnson County this Saturday, telling a crowd: “We deserve better”.
Kevin Yoder has come under fire recently for his continued endorsement of Donald Trump. Yoder’s early endorsement of Trump, as well as bringing Rep. Trey Gowdy into Kansas for a fundraiser have signaled to many moderate Republicans that Kevin Yoder is no longer a moderate.
Yoder spoke in praise of Trump’s apology, saying it was the “right thing”; I and other members called the Kevin Yoder office to be informed he would continue to support Trump and planned to vote for him this fall.
