You know, one of the big problems with trying to “cover” Trump is the cavalcade of bullshit. He throws so much insane crap at you you can drown in it. I’ve come to learn that it’s a strategy. It’s just like his taxes. “They want paperwork, I’ll drown them in paperwork”! And in the process, some “inconvenient truths” can be lost, omitted or hidden. Trump did it repeatedly last night, but there were three ones that must be brought out into the light of day and exposed.
Either way, he lied
Anderson Cooper of CNN came at Trump like a prosecutor, right out of the gate. His first question was about the “bus tape”. He recapped the statements, and closed with “You do understand Sir, that you’re talking about sexual assault?”. Trump immediately went into babble mode, talking about “locker room banter” and rambling on. Cooper was having none of it, asking him the same question again. Again Trump babbled on about “Locker room banter” and the such. Cooper finished with, “But did you do it?”. Trump went into another 300 words of salad, but right in the middle of it, he dropped six of the smallest words in the English language, “And no, I didn’t do it”, saying them softly and as quickly as he could before getting louder and picking up steam again, trying to hide the needle in the haystack.
Either way Trump lied. Either he was lying on the bus about grabbing and pawing women and all the rest of it, or he lied to Anderson Cooper and all the rest of us when he said “And no, I didn’t do it”. Personally, after this, and his treatment of Alicia Machado, I think we’ll see first a trickle, and then a flood of women coming out to tell their stories about Trump’s sexual assaults, finally wanting to get back at their tormentor. It could be a painful and emotionally wracking decision for them, but if they can find a way to do it, they may find some peace, and expose the man for what he is.
Trump pays no personal income taxes
Martha Radditz did her best last night, but Trump wasn’t about to be talked back to by a woman, but we’ll get to that next. Anderson Cooper scored the heavy hits on Trump, and this one was a doozy. Cooper hammered Trump on his failure to release his income taxes, and grilled him about his using his $951M casino loss to offset personal tax liability. Trump was ready, and deflected the question by blaming Hillary for spending 30 years letting him get away with it by it by not closing the loophole. Hillary had a great answer to that, stating that when she was in the Senate, she sponsored and voted for laws to close that very loophole, but unfortunately the President has something called a “veto pen”. And one niggling little detail. Hillary was only in the Senate for 8 years, not 30, more bullshit getting buried in the tsunami of it. Cooper followed up with a question along the lines of “But since you won’t release your taxes, how do we know if you paid any personal income taxes?”, Trump once again went off on another avalanche of word salad about the tax laws, but once again, right on cue in the dead middle he uttered 4 more short words, “Of course I didn’t”, as quickly as possible, and then went on to cover them up with more bullshit.
Thanks to Anderson Cooper actually doing the job of journalism, digging in and not letting Trump get away with obfuscation and bullshit, we now know that we no longer really need to actually see Trump’s income taxes. From Trump’s own lips we now know that he has spent years using every loophole available to avoid paying any personal income taxes. Hillary was right. He has stiffed the veterans, he has stiffed the armed forces, he has stiffed the poor and disabled, and anybody else that the government tried to assist using tax dollars. To put it bluntly, the man is a fucking taker!
Trump really DOES hate women, and he marginalized the GOP
Trump’s true feelings about women are no longer in doubt. From his flippant answer to his offensive “locker room banter”, to his disdain for and even attempted humiliation of Martha Radditz, to the way he tried to physically intimidate Hillary Clinton on stage, scowling at her and looming over her threateningly, trying to cow her menacingly into submission, it was pure “Alpha Dog” at its worst. The hatred and scorn in his voice when addressing her directly, angrily pointing his finger at her and repeatedly saying, You should be ashamed of yourself!”, like she had just burned the roast, It was all classic male to female intimidation at its lowest. No one who watched that performance last night can ever hear him say the words “I have the greatest respect for women” again without canting to projectile hurl.
As a man who actually does respect women, and always has, I was personally embarrassed and ashamed at what Mrs. Clinton and Ms. Radditz had to go through last night at the hands of this arrogant asshole. But they did not suffer in vain. Trump is going to take a historic pounding from women this year at the ballot box. Let’s be honest, how many women are out there who have had to suffer through being intimidated and bullied by their lover or husband. Tragically my guess would be far too many. Sadly, many of them may feel that they have to put up with it at home, but they don’t have to put up with it from a piece of shit like Trump! And they’ll prove that at the ballot box on November 8th. Even women who don’t have to put up with such behavior at home are going to be offended and vote with their feet.
They can spin this however they like, but Donald John Trump now is the face of the GOP. He is their leader, he speaks directly for them, he is now indelibly their brand, they own him. He has already cost the Republican party the African American and Hispanic vote for at least the next generation, making it basically impossible for them to win a Presidential election. If he has now done the same thing with women, the largest single voting bloc in the country, the GOP may as well not even bother to run a Presidential candidate for at least the next 12 years. And if women’s disgust for Trump slops over to the rest of the party in guilt by association, statewide candidates are going to find the sledding rocky and difficult as well.
There was one more nugget that came out in last nights debate that is worth noting as viscerally important. Not only does Trump not give a fat rats ass about the GOP, he doesn’t give a whit about even his running mate. Last night he was asked about Mike Pence’s answer in his debate about the U.S. having to be ready to use military force in Syria if necessary, and Trump got a disdainful sneer on his face and replied, “I haven’t spoken to him, and I disagree. I disagree”. His voice was dripping with scorn when he said it. This is another subject which is no longer in dispute. Trump is going to get steamrolled at the polls, and in his anger and humiliation he is going to take the entire GOP down in flames with him. After all, Trump never loses, it was the goddamn GOP that screwed him over and never gave him the love and support he needed. That’s how the man thinks.
