The New York Times Magazine is running a story about Hillary Clinton and her campaign this coming Sunday titled:
‘I’m the Last Thing Standing Between You and the Apocalypse’
The title is a direct quote from Clinton, and it’s the quote that closes out the piece penned by Mark Leibovich.
What I found humorous is that I had written a diary back on September 16 titled:
Clinton ad idea: "You may not like me, but I'm the only thing standing between you -- and this..."
… with “this” being, of course, Donald Trump.
I was castigated by many commenters in that diary, particularly a couple who claimed to be advertising/marketing experts, for even suggesting that Clinton offer up such a “stupid” statement. I didn’t mention it in the diary (because why upset the experts?), but I’ve been in marketing and advertising for more than 30 years. Clients like my work. I kind of know what I’m talking about.
Obviously, Clinton didn’t steal my idea. But she saw the sense in telling a certain swath of undecided voters that she is, indeed, the only thing standing between them and a Trump presidency, a terrifying thought, indeed…
