It's Thursday, October 13, and Day 242 since Justice Antonin Scalia died and Mitch McConnell decided no nominee would get any Senate attention: No meetings, no hearings, no votes. It's also Day 211 since Merrick Garland was nominated by President Obama to fill that vacancy. And Donald Trump has turned into a national nightmare and Republican armageddon.
Meanwhile, Chuck Grassley, running for re-election and steadfast in his obstruction to Garland, and his support for Trump.
"My letter that I sent to the other Republicans and all the members of the Judiciary Committee signed it said the people ought to have a voice and the new president ought to make it," Grassley said. "Whether it's Trump or it's Hillary, that's the person that's going to make it."
In both of Grassley's appearances Tuesday, he repeated his stance almost verbatim about Trump's controversial 2005 remarks about women.
"It's atrocious, outrageous and reprehensible the things he said, and those are things I've never said in my life," Grassley said.
But when pressed about if he still supports and endorses Trump, Grassley deflected the question, calling the decision a personal choice for voters.
"This is not referendum on Trump," Grassley said. "This is a choice between Trump and Hillary."
Yep, just fine with Donald Trump picking the next Supreme Court nominee. No problems there for Grassley. As for the putative Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, he remains ensconced in his shell, refusing to talk about Trump just because "I choose not to." Leadership!
Mitch McConnell and Chuck Grassley are just fine with Donald Trump picking a Supreme Court nominee. All those senators who have dumped Trump and could provide the vote margin for Garland—they are, too.
Can you chip in $3 to each of these candidates to end Mitch McConnell's Senate leadership?
