I have a theory about the Democratic Party and it’s philosophy of choosing candidates. I believe that they only choose the supposed “sure things” to throw their weight behind. They seem to only back well known candidates who are well financed, and who have a Republican opponent who they believe is beatable.
I have an analogy I use to describe this:
It’s like a ship full of Democratic candidates is sinking and the DNC, the DCCC, Emily’s list and DKE send out boats to save them. But, they only save the ones who are already close to the shore, they leave the others to tread water by themselves.
They save the ones who don’t need it. They only support the “sure things”, the folks, I would argue, don’t need support. I can almost understand that. Most everyone wants to support the winner. It feels good.
I’m a little different. When I watch a basketball game I root for the team who is behind. When they get ahead, I root for the other team, who is now the team behind. What I think is that if we spread our support around, we get more winners. When we use my method in politics, the Zen of campaigning method, what we get are more Democrats in office! And who doesn’t want that?
I told my theory of the sinking ship to Doug Applegate, running in CA49, and he chuckled and said he was a very good swimmer. Turns out he is, and the Party is, now, finally, supporting him. Due, in part, to all the diaries written about him here on DK.
Here is a list of other candidates who could also use our support. These are just the ones who float my boat, feel free to add your own in the comments.

I have more too, this is only a partial list. I have more candidates — some for Congress, Senate, Governors, and local and state government. I am not going to be satisfied until we have a majority in every branch of government, in every state. That’s what I firmly believe will make the world a better place.
One thing that all my candidate picks have in common is that they are all supporters of 90for90, the voter advocacy movement started to honour Dr. William Ferguson Reid. The first black man elected to the VA Assembly. He was fighting for voter rights when there were literacy tests and poll taxes, and at the age of 91, he still is! You can see more candidates and supporters here.
Please help! These candidates mean everything!
